The novel Dark Matter relies heavily on a number of important
concepts in physics and astronomy.  To read more about any of
them, please click on the relevant links to
Wikipedia below.

  • Dark Matter - Matter of unknown composition that does not emit
or reflect enough electromagnetic radiation to be observed directly,
but whose presence can be inferred from gravitational effects on
    visible matter. <more>

  • Antimatter - Extends the concept of the antiparticle to matter,
whereby antimatter is composed of antiparticles in the same way
that normal matter is composed of particles. <more>

  • Speed of Light - An important physical constant denoted by the
letter c for constant or the Latin word celeritas meaning
"swiftness".  It is the speed of all electromagnetic radiation,
including visible light, in a vacuum. <more>

  • Special Relativity - A fundamental physics theory about space
and time developed by Albert Einstein as a replacement for
    classical mechanics. <more>

  • General Relativity - a theory of gravitation developed by Albert
Einstein, stating that the observed gravitational attraction between
masses results from those masses warping nearby space and
    time. <more>

  • String Theory - A model of fundamental physics, whose building
blocks are one-dimensional extended objects called strings, rather
than the zero-dimensional point particles that form the basis for the
standard model of particle physics. <more>

  • Higher Dimensions - Theories such as string theory and M-
theory predict that space in general has up to 11 dimensions, but
that the universe, when measured along these additional
dimensions, is subatomic in size. As a result, we perceive only the
3 spatial dimensions that have macroscopic size. <more>

  • Time Travel - The concept of moving backwards and/or forwards
to different points in time, in a manner analogous to moving
through space. Additionally, some interpretations of time travel
suggest the possibility of travel between parallel realities or
    universes. <more>

  • Black Hole - A region of space in which the gravitational field is so
powerful that nothing can escape after having fallen past the event
    horizon. <more>

  • Fermi Paradox - The apparent contradiction between high
estimates of the probability of the existence of extraterrestrial
civilizations and the lack of evidence for, or contact with, such
    civilizations.. <more>
